What does an image DPI checker read?
It reads resolution metadata stored in a supported JPG or PNG and shows the image's pixel dimensions. The reported value is a file label used by some print and layout software, not a direct measurement of visible sharpness.
Why does my image show no DPI metadata?
Some exports omit resolution fields because screens mainly use pixel dimensions. A missing value does not mean the image has no pixels or cannot print; it means physical size cannot be inferred from stored DPI alone.
Does a high DPI value mean high quality?
Not by itself. A tiny image can be labeled with a very high DPI and still lack enough pixels for a large print. Judge print potential by combining pixel dimensions, intended physical size, and the printer's requirements.
How do I calculate print size from DPI?
Divide pixel width and height by the DPI value to estimate dimensions in inches. For example, the same file prints smaller at a higher DPI. Cropping, bleed, printer settings, and resampling can affect the final result.
Can checking DPI change my image?
No. The checker reads supported metadata and dimensions without rewriting the selected source file. If you choose to update the value afterward, that is a separate converter action that creates a new downloadable result.
Why do different apps show different DPI?
