What does resizing an image by percentage mean?
Percentage resizing multiplies the original width and height by the same scale. A 50% setting halves both dimensions, while 200% doubles them. Because both sides change together, the original aspect ratio remains intact.
How do I make an image half its original size?
Choose 50%. An image that starts at 2400 × 1600 pixels becomes 1200 × 800 pixels after normal rounding. The percentage applies to pixel dimensions, not directly to file size, print size, or download weight.
Can I enlarge an image with a percentage above 100?
Yes. Values above 100% create larger pixel dimensions, but enlargement interpolates new pixels rather than recovering real detail. A small source can therefore look softer, especially around text, edges, and fine texture.
Does percentage resizing preserve the aspect ratio?
Yes. Width and height use the same multiplier, so their proportional relationship stays unchanged. This makes percentage scaling useful when you want a smaller or larger version without choosing a new shape or crop.
Will reducing dimensions also reduce file size?
Usually, because fewer pixels generally require less image data, but the exact download size also depends on format, quality, transparency, and image complexity. Percentage resizing does not promise a specific kilobyte target.
