Can I enter any KB value?
You can enter any supported positive KB target within the tool's validation range. Use the limit stated by your destination rather than guessing. The field starts empty so this page does not impose a fixed file-size goal on your job.
Does the result always equal my KB target?
No. Your value is treated as a maximum, and the encoder may produce a smaller file. Some extreme combinations cannot fit within the available format and dimension limits, so the download can be marked as the best result instead.
Why does a very small KB target reduce dimensions?
For JPG and WebP, the tool first searches quality from 40 through 100 at the current resolution. If the file remains too large at quality 40, width and height are reduced together before quality is searched again.
What is the difference between KB and MB?
One MB equals 1,024 KB in this tool, and one KB equals 1,024 bytes. Switching units converts the same underlying target for display, so you can express a limit in the form that is easiest to compare with your destination.
Which format works best for small KB limits?
JPG often suits photographs, WebP can be efficient for modern web use, and PNG is useful for lossless graphics or transparency. PNG may need more dimension reduction because it does not expose the same adjustable quality control.
Can I preserve a transparent background?
Yes, when you select PNG or WebP and the source contains transparency. JPG cannot preserve an alpha channel. For an especially small KB ceiling, a transparent PNG may require fewer pixels to produce a valid result.
Is custom KB compression private?

Will an extremely small target finish safely?
