Will the result be exactly 240 KB?
The tool treats 240 KB as an upper limit, not an exact byte count. It stops when an encoded result fits under the target. Browser encoders can produce a smaller file, and an extreme image may return the smallest valid result instead.

JPG and WebP are first searched at the current dimensions with quality kept at 40 or higher. If even the lowest allowed quality stays above 240 KB, the tool reduces width and height together and searches quality again.

JPG and WebP can vary encoding quality, then reduce resolution only when needed. PNG uses lossless browser encoding, so reaching 240 KB may depend more heavily on reducing dimensions, especially for detailed or noisy images.
How are KB and MB calculated?
ResizeBento uses binary file-size units: one KB equals 1,024 bytes and one MB equals 1,024 KB. You can switch the unit beside the target field, and the same byte limit is converted for display without changing the job target.
Which output format should I choose?

Can a transparent image stay transparent?
Choose PNG or WebP when transparency must remain. JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas require an opaque background. Very small PNG targets may need reduced pixel dimensions because PNG does not use the same quality search.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Image decoding, resizing, and encoding happen locally in your browser, so selected files are not sent to a remote image-processing service. The current job and results may remain in the local browser workspace for refresh recovery.
What happens if 240 KB cannot be reached?
The compressor uses a finite number of quality and dimension attempts, then returns the smallest valid encoded result it produced. It does not loop forever or claim the target was reached when the final file is still over 240 KB.
