4 MB Image Questions

Will the output be exactly 4 MB?
The preset treats 4 MB as an upper limit instead of an exact byte count. Encoding stops at a suitable result below that ceiling, so the download may be smaller. An unreachable target is reported as a best-effort result.
Does a 4 MB target reduce image dimensions?
JPG and WebP keep the current width and height when quality of at least 40 can fit under 4 MB. Only when that quality search fails are both dimensions scaled down together, preserving the original image proportions.
Why does PNG compression work differently?
PNG uses lossless browser encoding rather than the adjustable quality search used by JPG and WebP. A complex transparent or detailed PNG can therefore require reduced pixel dimensions to approach the 4 MB ceiling.
How is the 4 MB target converted to bytes?
ResizeBento uses binary units: one MB equals 1,024 KB, and one KB equals 1,024 bytes. The preset keeps the number 4 with its MB unit, while shared conversion logic creates one consistent processing byte target.
Should I export a photo as JPG or WebP?
JPG provides broad compatibility for photographs, while WebP can deliver efficient modern browser output. Review the preview and final size, then choose the format accepted by the place where the image will be used.
Can transparency remain in a 4 MB image?
Yes, when PNG or WebP is selected and the source contains transparency. JPG has no alpha channel and needs an opaque background. Detailed PNG files may require smaller dimensions because their encoding is lossless.
Does ResizeBento upload my photograph?
No. Decoding, resizing, and encoding run locally in the browser, so selected photographs are not sent to a remote image-processing service. Current jobs and results may be stored locally for refresh recovery.
What happens when 4 MB is unreachable?
The compressor stops after a finite set of quality and dimension attempts and returns the smallest valid result it generated. It does not loop forever or mark the target reached when browser or format limits keep it above 4 MB.
